Citizenship, Governance and Public Sphere

by Nikita Junagade on 11 February 2010

With the advent of web 2.0 and with the spread of mobile phones in many developing nations, the conditions for and processes of citizen participation, public debate and social critique are changing. Civil society has, in recent years, grown significantly in countries with old traditions of top-down communication and non-participatory media and communication practices.

In these contexts of agency, citizenry and public debate, Glocal NOMAD will uncover relationships between media and communication developments, civil society, citizen engagement and governance processes.

Glocal NOMAD will also be hosting a seminar related to this area in October 2010. More details coming soon!
